The Enterprise
Inner Mongolia Mengniu Reproductive Biological Technology Co. Ltd. is a private high-tech enterprise on breeding and reproduction of dairy cattle. The company, which locates in Shengle Industrial Park, Huhhot of Inner Mongolia, with a registered capital of 20 million RMB (US$ 2.5 million), is mainly engaged in the research, development, application and promotion of the dairy cattle breeding biotechnology. The company has 37 employees, 29 of them have professional degrees and titles, accounting for 80 % of the staff. It also has 4 functional departments including general office, financial division, research and development division, and sales and technology service.
The Cooperation
The company was jointly founded by Inner Mongolia Mengniu Dairy Industry (Group) Co., Ltd., Inner Mongolia Sexing Assisted Reproductive Technologies Ltd., Beijing Dairy Cattle Centre, and XY Inc. of the United States. Through utilizing Mengniu's excellent resource, abundant capital and advanced management, and recruiting the expert team led by Dr. Xihe Li, senior research fellow at Cambridge University, the company carries out the research,development and application of gender-control of breeding and reproductive technology of dairy cattle, strives to convert it into a substantial accomplishment in the course of China's agricultural industrialization, therefore to achieve a harmonious progress between man and science, and the win-win result between the dairy companies and the farmers.
Human Resource
The company's research project and technology development are led by Dr. Xihe Li, senior research fellow at Cambridge University, joined by a group of elites including Dr. Wenzhong Zhou, a Canada-based scholar, and other experts from China Agriculture University, Beijing Dairy Center, Inner Mongolia University and Inner Mongolia Animal Improvement Station, thus to provide the company a strong theoretical support for scientific research and practical experiment.

l Successfully generated the world's first sexed ICSI test-tube calf.
l Successfully produced the Europe's first ICSI test-tube horse.
l Developed sexing technologies of mammal embryo and X/Y sperm selection which gained a national patent.
l The earliest feasibility studies for cloning and embryonic stem cell of horse, laid a solid foundation for the research of the field.
l Published more than 60 research papers, made more than 50 speeches in international academic conferences and is now engaging in compiling two academic books.
l Once served as the chairman of Chinese Student and Scholars Association of Tokyo Agricultural University; general secretary and deputy chairman of Chinese Student and Scholars Association of Cambridge University; member of the board of directors of the Cambridge Chinese school.
l Currently serves as CTO of Mengniu Reproductive Biotechnology Co.Ltd.
Expert Team
Dr. Wenzhong Zhou, Canada-based scholar, visiting professor at Cell & Molecule Science Institute, Osaka University; researcher at the Medical Center of University of Nebraska; researcher of pathology and molecular immunology at McMaster University of Canada; Director of Production and Research/Development Division at Inner Mongolia Mengniu Reproductive Biotechnology Co., Ltd.;
Mr. Songjin Qian, senior engineer on animals husbandry, engaged in animal improvement, breed, frozen semen Promotion; was awarded many times as an “Advanced Employee” by the Agriculture Ministry of China, the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine Bureau of AMC, and the Inner Mongolia Animal Husbandry Bureau, obtained more than 10 state-level and regional-level achievement awards; published over 20 papers in scientific research journals.
Mr. Jianguo Wang, a participant in the state's 863 Project of “Research and Development of Technology in Vitro Fertilization”, and “Trial Development of Technology for Improved Variety Beef Cattle in North China”; his other research projects (finished and under way) include a Sino-Australia cooperation project of “Cattle Genetic Improvement Utilizing Technology in Vitro Fertilization”, a region's Seed Engineering project of “Development and Research of Inner Mongolia's Fine Variety Beef Cattle”; a key brainstorm project during the Ninth Five-Year Plan Period as “Establishment of Preserve Species Storage for Standard Experimental Animal Embryo”, published nearly 20 research papers.
